Blueprint Relay
Pass the message, build the copy and see how information really travels.

About
Blueprint Relay is an engaging activity focused on collaboration and communication between departments, where every person plays a vital role in the team’s success.
Participants are divided into smaller groups, each with a specific role in an information-sharing network. Their goal is to rebuild an exact copy of a model from simple elements, without the builders ever seeing the original.
Teams first agree on a strategy, then pass descriptions, questions and feedback along the network within a tight time limit, while strict rules control who can see the model and who can speak to whom.
The activity ends with a debrief in which everyone shares their experience, compares results and draws conclusions about how information really flows through their organisation. It is a simple idea with a powerful payoff, and teams are often amazed by how different their copy looks from the original.
Learning outcomes
Blueprint Relay makes communication visible. Teams see exactly where information is lost, misunderstood or delayed as it passes from one group to the next.
Every role depends on the others. Observers must describe clearly, messengers must pass details accurately and builders must ask the right questions, which builds empathy for colleagues in other functions.
The strict rules mirror real organisational structures and reporting lines, prompting useful discussions about how teams could share information more effectively.
The debrief turns the experience into practical lessons. Participants leave with a shared language for talking about communication and ideas they can apply straight away. It works especially well for organisations with teams spread across several European offices.
Groups often repeat a short second round after the debrief, and the improvement in their results shows how quickly better habits can take hold.
