Sky Pilot Obstacle Run

About

Sky Pilot Obstacle Run is a flexible, technology-driven team challenge. Teams must guide a drone carefully through eight obstacles formed by the team members themselves, from take-off all the way to landing on the launch pad.

Teams begin by studying eight obstacle cards, each showing a complex human formation. Together they analyse the cards and plan their choreography: who stands where, when they move and who does what.

Every person gets a turn at flying the drone. Teams practise and refine their moves, finding faster and smarter ways to form each obstacle, before taking part in the final timed race.

The winning team is the one that involves every player and coordinates its movements with the greatest speed and precision. Along the way, teams discover how much communication it takes to keep a drone steady while everyone else is moving around it.

Learning outcomes

Sky Pilot Obstacle Run puts planning, communication and precision at the heart of teamwork. Teams must design a clear sequence of moves and stick to it under time pressure.

The pilot relies completely on the people forming the obstacles, and they rely on the pilot. That mutual dependence builds trust and shows how every role affects the result.

Practice rounds encourage continuous improvement. Teams review what slowed them down, adjust roles and try again, getting noticeably faster each time.

Because every person takes a turn at the controls, everyone experiences leading and supporting. The activity is inclusive, energetic and easy to run indoors or outdoors at venues across Europe, and it leaves teams with a strong sense of shared achievement.
