About

In Pedicab Sprint, teams build their own three-wheeled passenger cart within a tight time frame. It is a fast, hands-on challenge that gets everyone moving from the very first minute.

Working from supplied plans, each team turns a self-assembly kit into the ultimate cardboard racing vehicle, sturdy enough to carry a passenger.

Once it is built, teams decorate their pedicab so it stands out from the rest, adding colour, character and a few finishing touches. Teams also choose who will take the passenger seat and who will power the pedicab on race day.

The challenge ends with a race, in which teams pit their pedicabs against each other in a test of speed and control. With cheering supporters and a dash to the finish line, it is a lively finale that brings the whole group together. It suits parks, courtyards and large indoor halls.

Learning outcomes

Pedicab Sprint is a quick and energetic way to practise planning and teamwork. Teams have little time, so they must organise themselves and share out tasks immediately.

Splitting into sub-teams to build different parts shows how work comes together when everyone understands the overall goal.

Building something strong enough to carry a passenger encourages attention to detail and quality, as weak joints are exposed on the track.

Decorating the pedicab adds creativity and team pride, while choosing the passenger and riders sparks plenty of good-natured discussion.

The race is a burst of laughter and cheering that leaves everyone energised. Teams finish with a shared sense of achievement and a story they will retell for a long time.

Facilitators keep everyone safe and on schedule, and the finale gives every team a moment in the spotlight.
